Bed Watch Security – Compassion with Vigilance
At Smart Watch Security we understand that some patients and service-users require individualised, eyes-on care to keep them – and those caring for them – safe. Our highly trained Bed Watch Security team provide that reassurance, combining medical-grade observing skills with security professional professionalism so treatment not restraint is all clinical staff must concern themselves with.
What Is Bed Watch Security?
Bed Watch is on-site, face-to-face monitoring of a patient whose illness or behavior presents a higher level of risk to themselves or others. Officers remain at the bedside (or vantage point) for the duration of the shift, conducting welfare checks, recording changes in real time and intervening early to prevent escalation. It is an intervention used most frequently by emergency departments dealing with cases of violent intoxication, mental-health and CAMHS wards looking after people in crisis, acute wards looking after patients who are likely to abscond or self-harm, and custody-suite healthcare teams treating detainees.
When Should You Ask for Bed Watch?
If you have a detained or sectioned patient lacking capacity, the primary risks are self-harm and attempts to escape. Our officers eliminate these risks by continuous visual monitoring, regular ligature checks and immediate intervention when a risk is detected.
For aggression as a result of drug or alcohol use, staff safety is our first priority. We employ de-escalation specialists assisted by colleagues trained in physical intervention, maintaining the violence is swiftly and quietly contained.
VIP or vulnerable detainees need low-key but firm control; our officers combine subtle perimeter control with compassionate bedside presence, with both dignity and security.
Finally, for end-of-life or paediatric protection cases, you need someone to manage visitor access securely but sensitively. Our officers are the added layer of protective service to the clinical team, allowing nurses and medics to focus on care rather than crowd management.
Duties of a Smart Watch Security Bed Watch Officer
Our Promise – Vigilant, Nurturing, Compliant
All officers are SIA-licensed, DBS-checked and vetted to BS 7858. Induction training covers the Mental Capacity Act, basic life support and safe-holding skills. Gender or language matching of officers is available on request, and all activity is recorded into live dashboards and end-of-shift summaries for optimum transparency. There is a 24/7/365 control room with an instant escalation pathway and relief rota in order to prevent fatigue.
Why Choose Smart Watch Security
